SunOyster lightweight modules: gluing instead of drilling is the way to go!
November 2025, EDP is a leading global energy company with operations in Europe, North America, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region. 90% of the energy generated by EDP already comes from renewable sources, and EDP aims to become completely climate neutral by 2040.
At the end of 2024, EDP identified our SunOyster PV lightweight modules with glass fronts as one of the technologies that could significantly advance the energy transition in a global competition. The lightweight solar modules, which are simply glued in place, are a solution for roofs with limited load-bearing capacity.
EDP has now implemented the first demonstration project with 25 kWp lightweight modules in Lisbon. The electricity generation costs of our lightweight modules are only around 3 ct/kWh.
Adhesive instead of drilling – no roof penetration
EDP also appreciates that our solar solution reliably prevents roof leaks caused by screw connections, which have become increasingly common on the market in recent times.
As part of the project, EDP also conducted a spectacular pull-off test on the SunOyster lightweight modules with glass fronts. The result:
A tensile force of 500 kg was unable to pull off the adhesive under the module and the test was successfully completed. This is many times more than what is achieved with ballasted or screwed modules.
“We are very pleased about and look forward to the successful cooperation with EDP!” Dr. Carsten Corino, CEO SunOyster Systems
