Lightweight modules from SunOyster Systems are now installed on the foil roof of Plant 3 at the Schweinfurt site.
Lightweight photovoltaic modules for bonding to roofs and facades
November 2025.
We are delighted to have been able to implement our lightweight PV modules as a solution for the load-limited roofs and metal facade at the Schweinfurt site for SKF, the world's leading supplier of bearings, seals, and lubricants.
There, the expansion of photovoltaics reached its limits because not all roofs proved to be sufficiently load-bearing. The solution: special lightweight modules that were installed using an adhesive process without mounting structures. The SunOyster lightweight modules have a front made of tempered glass and are glued directly to the roof and facade without any mounting structures or additional weights. This makes them suitable for industrial buildings with limited load-bearing capacity.
Thanks to their low weight, which we have distributed here over only 4 kg/m² of roof area, and their extremely high adhesive strength, they offer a technically and economically convincing alternative to classic PV installations.
The system installed at SKF Plant 3 in Schweinfurt has a total output of 274 kWp. Installations such as this demonstrate that industrial photovoltaic solutions can be implemented even under difficult structural conditions, enabling electricity costs to be kept well below the current market price.
„It was important for us to launch a larger pilot project here and gain experience that we can use for other buildings and other SKF plants." , a quote from Markus Schumm, EHS-Manager at SKF
Many thanks to SKF for the excellent cooperation! The beautiful pictures from SKF/Holger Laschka show the impressive results. 😊
